Countdown to Midnight

It's not even 4 pm and my kids are ready to leave for the Hogwart's Ball.

This is going to be a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG afternoon!

I discovered today that you can reserve a copy of the book but you cannot purchase a copy of the book. It's going to be wild after midnight tonight because not only is every crazy person going to be picking up their book but they are also going to be paying for the book. If you can judge the number of people watching the SuperBowl by the number of toilet flushes at halftime, imagine what you can do with the credit card transmission traffic at 12:01 tonight?

And I've been wondering....

If the book goes on sale simultaneously worldwide and it goes on sale at 12:01 am East Coast US, does that mean NYC is the deciding time zone for the Potter books? So in California, when does it go on sale? And what about other countries -- like Australia? Does that mean they can't get the book until the 22nd or late in the day on the 21st? How does that work? And why would Rowling, who stayed true to her books by having a British cast, agree to that? Is the American book market really that large a force? If it is, imagine what it would be if all those kids who don't read actually read.... Seriously. I meant to check this out before now but didn't.

Either way, it's not long until we find out who gets offed and who survives!
