UK H1N1 Virus Tests Underway

Virologists at the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) based in London are using samples of the virus taken from an American swine flu patient to grow the H1N1 virus in culture. Once they grow enough material, they'll begin a series of tests to determine the ways in which the virus might become more virulent. The researchers will be looking for signs of changes in the proteins on the surface of the virus as it passes between hosts, reports Nature News on May 1.  In addition to work on a vaccine, the NIMR will also produce reagents for other labs to use in the detection of H1N1.

You'll find the full report here.
